Did I just say that out loud?

“OMG! I’ve been blogging for a solid year?! Am I a BLOGGER?!?!”

Sounded funny when I said it out loud, in actual words, too!

When I first started my brand & business I was working with a Graphic Designer on the Rose Golde website. He was showing me that I could Blog and share Videos from the platform I was using. I vividly remember telling him, “Oh, I won’t need that - I’m not a Blogger. I have a Beauty Business.”

My attitude was more like, I just need a business website buddy - with pictures and a bio - that just sits on the internet in case someone needs to click on it. 

Then - like 2 years ago, I found myself wanting to share more with my clients. More than what we could cover in a Salon Appointment. I mean after all - you (and your hair) spend more time outside of the salon then you do in it. So why are we just left to talking hair + beauty during your appointment? 

Then I thought - I could send out informational emails & video tutorials between appointments to share more! Businesses do that all the time! ~Flashes to anytime I get an email and I think it’s spammy, so I delete it. ~ Okay so maybe not emails. 

ME: “I wish there was a way to write down educational info and share video tutorials that people could come online and read if & when they want to.” 

LIGHT BULB MOMENT: WRITE A BLOG & HOST VIDEOS ON YOUTUBE!!  

FEAR: NO! NOT A BLOG!! DO NOT START A YOUTUBE CHANNEL!!

I decided I should reach out to a blogger, like one who does it as their primary job -  to have coffee & ‘talk shop’, you know - do a little recon. 

 We sat down and quickly started talking about the PROS / CONS of blogging - and what it really is…work.

Now she was encouraging, because that is her whole M.O. and she did tell me if I wanted to try it I should just jump in and start.  But the thing I remember most about our talk, is when she told me she HATES it when girls call themselves Bloggers on social media when they aren’t doing the work of REAL BLOGGERS. (Like, AS IF!) 

That’s EXACTLY what my FEAR wanted to hear - Self Preservation baby, you’re not a REAL BLOGGER or YOUTUBER - So, you obviously shouldn’t do it, that way people can’t talk shit about you!! 

I’m a really good self negotiator - so I told my fear, I would start my blog and create video tutorials- but I wouldn’t tell anyone I was doing it, or hashtag it, or call myself a blogger, or say I made videos! 

(Insert LOTS of research on how to use the Blog feature of my website, SEVERAL late nights after work watching video making tutorials, and then even more hours spent writing, recording, editing, and uploading)

I spend A LOT of TIME, that truthfully could easily be spent doing something deemed ‘more fun’ - and I quickly realized the WORK she spoke of…but passionate to share more I kept coming back to my computer week after week! 

I blogged & made videos consistently, - and silently…for like, 6+ months. 

Yes, I was creating content for my clients, but no - you didn’t have the slightest clue that you were getting this added value because I was keeping it on the hush-hush.

Clients were asking me the same questions over and over like; When should I book a deep condition and what one should I do? How do you braid your hair like that? What eyeshadow palette do you like? What is NBR? — these were all questions that I had POSTED answers to.

It was then that I decided my FEAR was NOT as powerful as my desire to give added value to my clients! PLUS I was putting too much work into creating these resources to NOT share it with you!

So I went all in,  I started sharing my blog posts and videos in my stories, started sharing the link on my facebook page and most importantly letting my clients know that I had a whole video tutorial on that exact topic uploaded for them!

When clients would come in for their appointment and start talking about how they started using a flat iron to curl their hair now “just like in the video” I was SO happy you were enjoying and UTILIZING the information! 

Or when you read the blog about moving into Package Services and away from an A la Cart Menu as a way to stop the frustration & headache with Online Booking… and it made that switch SO seamless for both of us. 

Now A YEAR in, you can find weekly new blogs on all things Beauty with a touch of Lifestyle here and there! AND I’m happily posting about it in my stories, sharing it openly on facebook for all to see, uploading video tutorials to YouTube and hashtagging #beautyblogger whenever the mood strikes! 

Just over a year ago if you were to ask me if I’d ever create my own videos or write blog posts - It would have been a HARD NO. If you would have flipped it around and asked me if I wanted to continue to offer value to my client’s - I would say HELL YES! But never would I have thought those things would go so hand in hand like they do. 

My goals are to always to keep the health and integrity of your hair my number one priority in the salon, and for you to feel confident in your beauty & routines when you’re at home!

I’m PROUD to be celebrating the 1 year anniversary of incorporating Video + Blog into the Rose Golde Experience. 

I’m REALLY proud NOT to say, “I’m a blogger” - BUT to say, “I have an amazing customer experience”! Really that’s where this whole thing started for me. Being my own boss, creating my own schedule, building a business that I have pride in, and offering a guest experience that I personally would enjoy to have.

So, I’m excited for all the future posts and videos to come. Everything gets better with time and experience ~ I love seeing the growth, it really is beautiful!

If you would have asked me in 2018 if I would be traveling to Laguna Beach SEVEN times for education in 2019, I would have probably laughed and then followed with something sarcastic. #typical.

Mostly because I would think about traveling arrangements + expenses, time off of work, an already a busy schedule, and - truthfully just the fear of the unknown with THAT big of a commitment.

Last week I had my FOURTH trip down to California (oh - spoiler, I did earn a spot in NBR’s Mastermind Program, BMS - in case you were still hanging on to what happened there) and each and every time I go down I get to reunite with some of the BEST women from all walks of life, from all parts of the nation!

Women who are going outside of their COMFORT ZONES to talk about what it takes to be a Female Entrepreneur.

These words come up EVERY.TIME

• Vulnerability

• Authenticity

• Fear of: Opinions, Judgements, Failures, Successes - you name it.

• Doubt

• Mom Guilt

• Overwhelm

• Work/Life Balance

• the list goes on my friend…

You know what I’m reminded of every damn time…We ALL feel these things. We think (thanks social media) that everyone else is #crushingit at adulting, and life, and business, and doing ALL the things we wish we could. But when we really start to talk about it with each other there is a TON of “OMG me too” .

If there is something up there on that list that you are like, ohhhh - that’s me… you are not alone in it. Everyone is feeling it too, but not everyone is openly talking about it. BECAUSE OF FEAR and VULNERABILITY. That shit is a vicious cycle.

I am PROUD to be in a group of women who are actively working on self growth. Who make commitments to themselves, in front of others, to rise up to their full potential as a woman, a mother, a partner, a daughter, a sister, an entrepreneur, and stylist for their clients ~ DESPITE if it’s an uncomfortable road to get there.

I’m also HELLA FREAKING INSPIRED when we’re all back together in the same room like we were last week and pull out the goals we made the last time we were together. That’s some accountability right there. “You said you were going to grow in these areas - Did you?”

My Message to Women Right Now

My goal is always to show women how beautiful they are and to remind them of their inner confidence and power so they can go out and kick ass bringing their passions to life.

I choose to do this through the art of Lived in Color and NBR Extensions. I’m passionate about the mastering skillsets in these, and delivering an amazing experience. I’m even more passionate about women being on FIRE with purpose. A woman’s hair appointment (or nails, lashes, waxing, facials, spa day —- pick yours ) is technically a CONFIDENCE Appointment - it’s about the FEELING afterwards.

The extra pep in your step. That little BOOST you get when you leave. I know that YOU KNOW the EXACT feeling I’m talking about.

So many things are coming up in the world today about Women - rights, movements, powers - you name it…it’s being talked about on a very MACRO level.

I’ve realized my part in this is smaller, it’s on the micro level. It’s about showing an individual woman that she can have the confidence she needs to THEN go and tackle whatever is important to her.

I’m in it for the confidence of women, the feeling we get after one little appointment that reminds us we are capable of BIG shit!

I feel like when I’m scrolling online - I see all of these quotes. I know you see them too about women and empowerment and I SEE things. But I want to WITNESS more women lifting each other up in my actual day to day life. What do you do personally to lift up your fellow woman?

I want to be held accountable of this in my own life and my own passion for purpose. Let’s be women of ACTION that do what we say. Let’s not just talk about it.. Let’s DO things that lift up ourselves so we may lift up other women in return.

Customer Experience: Package Pricing vs. A La Carte

So I made a couple of adjustments to my service menu and I’m so happy about it you don’t even know. The best part is, I created it with you in mind, to keep it simple and user friendly. Especially with online booking! Which was a feature I was blaming a lot of my problem on and at one point considered abandoning. 

Previously, I was offering an A La Carte Service Menu - with like a plethora of add on items.

Let me share with you HOW that menu system was ACTUALLY working out in real life.

When I was originally creating my menu I went online for inspo and looked at stylists’ menus for verbiage + layout. I thought it made most sense to offer a A La Carte menu. As a fresh newbie stylist and first time business owner - it was easy for me because it broke down and itemized all the techniques we use as stylists, to create your custom color:  Balayage or Babylights, Teasylights, Foiliage, the list goes on.

But with a little more season on my part I’ve come to learn todays #hairspo pictures are not that cut and dry to recreate. Lived In Color is so beautiful, seamless and timeless because it’s really a combination of like 5 techniques, and then you start the conversation of toning, glazing, smudging, rooting, lowlight, additional color, additional bowl, olaplex, blah blah blah hairstylist jargon —- plus a haircut.

When all you wanted was to sit down, relax, and have your hair goals magically appear on your head (you don’t really care how - besides make it pretty and keep it healthy) so you can get up and walk out feeling hot AF with a new confidence in yourself that makes you pretty sure you could conquer just about anything you damn well please. #girlpower

Then as we’d finish your appointment, I’d total all 12 A La Carte items up so they = 1 simple total package price. 

[which is how I got to the new package pricing - added up all my current a la carte items that it takes to create that effortless looking, but super technical lived in color...included a haircut (yes, you need one every time) - and put the total sticker right on the front!]

Almost too easy. Like it was right in front of my face the whole time!

Now let’s keep the celebration going!!

Now when you’re in Vagaro booking online - no more wondering ‘what exact 12 a la carte services do I need for my hair color appointment this time?’

You weren’t alone trying to navigate through it, I started to recognize a pattern in my clients DM’s not knowing all the al la carte add ons to book for their appointment because the combinations for all the a la carte options - were endless.

Which is crazy that I almost jumped ship on offering online booking thinking it was making things complicated. Because I actually LOVE how convenient it is for you. It’s 2019 and if you can pre order your Starbucks drink through an app, you sure as hell better be able to schedule a hair appointment from the comfort of your couch.  I hear ya sister!

Sometimes old ideas don’t work forever- and I’m not too proud to say that I had created a system that wasn’t operating at 100%. So I’ve worked really hard to simply it for both of us and ELIMINATE all of the hassle and let us keep the focus on creating beautiful healthy hair.

I couldn’t be happier to say that I now offer a simple Package Menu:
