From one Entrepreneur to another, or from one Goal Setting Girl to the next - here is the Personal Development Reading List that we used at Rose Golde Beauty to navigate being a Female Entrepreneur in 2019 and which ones we would recommend to a friend.

I know I primarily share a lot of hair, makeup, and beauty around here, and I’ve dabbled in some personal growth topics with you from time to time. But let’s not forget that the MOST beautiful thing about us will always be our heart and our mind.

In January of 2019 I set out to observe of my mindset, say goodbye to limiting beliefs and challenge myself in personal development for the sake of growth. I decided I wanted to read 1 book every 60 days and challenge the status quo of my thoughts.

I’ve always enjoyed reading and rummaging though bookstores to pick out books ‘I’d like to read one day’, but seldom “found the time” to do it. So, I decided to MAKE TIME to read a few books I already had on my bookshelf and grab some new ones that I heard were good.

So I created a morning routine. (if you want to know what that looks like now that I’ve been consistent with it for a year - let me know and I can dive more into that with you). So in my AM routine, I scheduled 15 minutes to read. JUST 15 minutes every day and here are the books I chose to put on the list.

YouAreABadass.png

The first book I decided to read was You Are A Badass by Jen Sincero. I needed an overall pep talk about life and had heard that this was an entertaining read with good concepts. This book is great if you’re looking for a one stop shop. The author talks about: ego, being in the moment, your subconscious, fear, meditation, not caring what people think, money, self doubt, and just doing the damn thing. If you’re new to self awareness - this is a great place to start and you’ll have fun reading it.

Next, I FLEW though Girl Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis. This is SUCH an easy read, and I loved her writing style it felt very conversational. I immediately felt like Rachel and I were besties and kept wanting read the next chapter because it felt like hanging out. Girl Wash Your Face talks specifically to women about stopping the lies and negative self talk so you can show up as the woman you’re meant to be. It’s pretty powerful. Now I’m not a mom, but the chapters on MOM GUILT were real you guys - I got a whole new world perspective about what it takes to be a woman PLUS a mom AND showing up in a mans world. I’d recommend this book to a friend.

thesubleartofnotgivingafuck.png

I read The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck because the title got me! I quickly LOVED that Mark Manson’s writing style was very tongue in cheek and full of sarcasm. It’s like he was saying similar things I had been learning - but in reverse, from more of a cynical perspective and I was into it. The main topic of this book is that social media and the consumer culture are giving us a twisted view. So caring LESS about all that B.S, not giving AF about what people you don’t even know think - and focusing on the REAL happiness of life. If you’re a skeptic too, I would say this might just be the angle you need to change your mindset.

thepowerofyoursubconciousmind.png

I’d be reading SO MUCH about our subconscious thoughts and beliefs that I realized - I needed to really understand what the subconscious mind even was, because it’s sorta hard to conceptualize at first. So I went to my bookshelf and picked up The Power of your Subconscious Mind by Joseph Murphy. I’m not going to sugar coat it - this book was kinda like reading a mix of science and philosophy and at times felt like a textbook. This is where I started to fully understand Habitual Thinking and stretch my thought processes. If you geek out of self awareness and consider yourself well versed in this subject, you’d probably really like this book. If you’re new to the scene I recommend starting out with the other 3 above mentioned books.

I needed to take a mental break after reading The Power of your Subconscious Mind and wanted to go with something I knew would be a little more upbeat and a conversational read. I liked Jen Sincero’s book, You are A Badass and thought I’d pick up her 2nd book You are A Badass at Making Money. I had been reading about a Scarcity Mindset and was curious what it meant. Now Scarcity isn’t just about Money, although that is this books’ focus - it talks A LOT about the limiting beliefs we have that make us fearful and how to have a Wealthy Mindset. Wealth is health, time, love, happiness and yes money is a tool to help us get those things. Abundance in all areas of life - is an inside job. If you need that reminder - check out this book.

thepowerofnow.png

The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle was just what I needed to focus & remain in the present moment. It’s easy in this day and age to get consumed with everything that’s going on around us in the digital space, and cram our brain with thoughts of past and future. Don’t let the pain of the past, or the anxiety of the future ruin your ability to be present in The Now. This book focuses on meditation, observing our thoughts and removing negativity so we can truly be present in the current moment. If you feel like you are detached from your present life because you are remembering the past, or are so focused on what is to come this book is a wonderful reminder that RIGHT NOW is what we have.

girlstopapologizing1.png

For my last book for the year, I decided to test out the whole Audible thing - even though I was SO opposed to listening to a book (I felt like I was cheating on paper and the written word) I ended the year with Rachel Hollis’s most recent book, Girl Stop Apologizing. I think this was the perfect book & author for my first Audible. Rachel narrates the book herself, and because I had already decided we were BFF it was easy to listen to. She inspiringly tells women to pursue our ambitions, chase those big goals and build up our confidence. Rachel Hollis puts on RISE conferences for women based around these concepts and I REALLY want to the one she does that’s designed for Entrepreneurs!

Now that I know reading 7 books is doable in a year (that’s the most I’ve ever read in a year outside of formal education) - I’m setting the realistic goal of reading (and listening) to 10 books in 2020. I’m focusing on books that have to do with leadership, habits, entrepreneurship and whatever else sounds good. If you have some recommendations I’d LOVE to hear what they are as I build my 2020 Reading List.

Don’t forget to also invest in the beauty of your mind & soul this year!

N O V E M B E R ~ 2019

November 2019 was for sure one that only happens as a result of saying YES a bunch of times. I’m sharing all the things - Personal and Professional on this month’s blog! So if you’re a personal friend or a client of Rose Golde Beauty there is something in it for you!

Hi. It’s been a minute hasn’t it.

Thank goodness for IG live videos, otherwise I would REALY feel like I haven’t seen you in forever!

November 2019 will most likely go down as the BEST month EVER because so many amazing & life altering moments happened! (It will also go down as a whirlwind because your girl was RUNNIN’! #praisebetocoffee) But then again, we are literally smack dab in the middle of Sagittarius Season, so what else did we think would happen?!

I remember middle of the summer when I was saying YES to all these plans, and writing them on the Calendar for November. My Man and I stood back and looked, in writing, all the things we had committed to doing - all FUN GOOD THINGS. But WHOA.  We said, “okay November is FULL!”

There was a moment where I started to feel so much self induced guilt when I realized that even with batching & planning - I wasn’t going to be able to put up a weekly Blog post in November. Which has been important to me, to keep doing consistently. But, it was like - something has got to give, and with some self grace I pushed the pause button, so I could push the play button in another area!

{So, my goal is that you read this as one long run on sentence, because I really want you experience how November felt!} Ready? Breathe in, and - GO.

We went to Hawaii for over 10 days, which included lots of hiking and a Mountain Top Waterfall Engagement!!! (totally amazing!)  Then we took a red eye home and celebrated My Man’s birthday and then hopped IMMEDIATELY back into work. Insert five 10-12 hour days in the Studio before packing up, flying out to Laguna Beach for a week for my final Quarterly Mastermind Event - then stay for BMSCON4 as a Platform Artist, race home and sleep for 15 hours solid so we could load the car up and RoadTrip Adventure my Birthday up to Oregon for Thanksgiving with my family!

WHOA right? It was such an AMAZING month and I wouldn’t change a single thing about it. I feel so much gratitude for all the opportunities that I was able to say “YES” to.

I feel like as I sit down and write this, snuggled up with my pups and a warm cup of coffee and Harry Potter in the background, I’m finally slowing down and processing November. (Just in time to wrap up a decade and Goal Set + Vision Plan for going into a new one in 2020)

November taught me just how BIG my capacity is. I know I’m not alone in forgetting just how much I can do - until I actually am put to the test and have to DO IT. How many times in our lives do we actually impress our selves!? Probably a LOT if we take a minute to think of the amount you can accomplish when it’s time to #getshitdone

I haven’t tackled my 2020 goals yet - I always take the week between Christmas and New Years to step away from working IN my business, and work ON my business and decide how to make it the best it can be for my guests.

Let’s start brain storming on things that we can accomplish, and impress our own damn selves going into the next year.

My books are open for 2020 to Extension Guests! To schedule a phone consultation and reserve an appointment for January. Click HERE and take the Hair Questionnaire

Are you along for the ride ~

Hang Tight! A lot is happening, and I probably need one of those big Orange caution Cones so set next to me because things are spinning!

You know that feeling when all areas of your life get SHIFTED!?!

It can be to one side or another, it doesn’t necessarily HAVE to mean GOOD Shift/ BAD Shift. Just ‘THE SHIFT’ of change.

I’m there. Or…here. wherever it is - I’m in it!

It’s kinda like when you played that game as a kid where you put your forehead on the handle of a baseball bat and spun around really really fast while counting to 10 - only to get up completely disoriented, maybe stumbling or feeling completely nauseous before eventually starting to get your equilibrium back.

I remember as a kid feeling like it was a doozy when I was spinning around that baseball bat and hoping to make it to number 10 - - but as I look back, I always came out the other side of it laughing, happy and willing to do it all over again!!!

(Please tell me you played whatever game that was and you know what I’m talking about. - - gotta go way back to the Recess days!)

IDK -that’s the best example that I can come up with to share how things are going these past few weeks! lol

I think life is currently giving me a spin and I’m along for the ride, in hopes that it also ends with a lot of laughter and excitedly saying, “I’d do that again!”

I’m just going with it, saying YES to things that come across my path and letting life take me on a spin cycle!

Once I’m done spinning around and I’m no longer dizzy from all that’s going on - and I’m a little more settled in….You know I’ll find the time to tell you EVERYTHING!

For the moment I’m asking for some grace in my response times to: emails, texts, DMs, messages, and calls - I will get back to you! I pinky promise.

I also want to go on record saying that I’m going to be giving myself permission to take moments of rest in a time where things are moving, shifting and changing!

I see another weekend with my phone on Airplane mode coming up real soon! Sometimes it’s good to slow down the things you can control and let life take the reigns on the rest!

xoxo

Find your Tribe

How often to do you get with your Tribe and talk about and work on - the uncomfortable things for the sake of growth? Check out this list and let me know which one made you think, “ohhhh - that one is me!”

If you would have asked me in 2018 if I would be traveling to Laguna Beach SEVEN times for education in 2019, I would have probably laughed and then followed with something sarcastic. #typical.

Mostly because I would think about traveling arrangements + expenses, time off of work, an already a busy schedule, and - truthfully just the fear of the unknown with THAT big of a commitment.

Last week I had my FOURTH trip down to California (oh - spoiler, I did earn a spot in NBR’s Mastermind Program, BMS - in case you were still hanging on to what happened there) and each and every time I go down I get to reunite with some of the BEST women from all walks of life, from all parts of the nation!

Women who are going outside of their COMFORT ZONES to talk about what it takes to be a Female Entrepreneur.

These words come up EVERY.TIME

  • Vulnerability

  • Authenticity

  • Fear of: Opinions, Judgements, Failures, Successes - you name it.

  • Doubt

  • Mom Guilt

  • Overwhelm

  • Work/Life Balance

  • the list goes on my friend…

You know what I’m reminded of every damn time…We ALL feel these things. We think (thanks social media) that everyone else is #crushingit at adulting, and life, and business, and doing ALL the things we wish we could. But when we really start to talk about it with each other there is a TON of “OMG me too” .

If there is something up there on that list that you are like, ohhhh - that’s me… you are not alone in it. Everyone is feeling it too, but not everyone is openly talking about it. BECAUSE OF FEAR and VULNERABILITY. That shit is a vicious cycle.

I am PROUD to be in a group of women who are actively working on self growth. Who make commitments to themselves, in front of others, to rise up to their full potential as a woman, a mother, a partner, a daughter, a sister, an entrepreneur, and stylist for their clients ~ DESPITE if it’s an uncomfortable road to get there.

I’m also HELLA FREAKING INSPIRED when we’re all back together in the same room like we were last week and pull out the goals we made the last time we were together. That’s some accountability right there. “You said you were going to grow in these areas - Did you?”

.gulp.

The part that motivates me the most, is that this group of women DID grow. They worked reeaaallllly hard and accomplished the things they said they would. They’re ready to make new goals and move past new roadblocks!

I’m feeling EXTRA grateful for the connections I’ve made and the fire I feel every time I’m around #BMSMastermind Everyone needs a Tribe.

~xo babes.

Oh yeah ~ if you’re wondering where all the HAIR talk was today and you’re just here for some NBR Extensions, I didn’t forget about you. Here ya go: NBR Hair History Form

My Message to Women Right Now

This is my message to my fellow womankind right now. Join Me?

marble-paper-textures-high-res-stone-background.jpg

My goal is always to show women how beautiful they are and to remind them of their inner confidence and power so they can go out and kick ass bringing their passions to life.

I choose to do this through the art of Lived in Color and NBR Extensions. I’m passionate about the mastering skillsets in these, and delivering an amazing experience. I’m even more passionate about women being on FIRE with purpose. A woman’s hair appointment (or nails, lashes, waxing, facials, spa day —- pick yours ) is technically a CONFIDENCE Appointment - it’s about the FEELING afterwards.

The extra pep in your step. That little BOOST you get when you leave. I know that YOU KNOW the EXACT feeling I’m talking about.

So many things are coming up in the world today about Women - rights, movements, powers - you name it…it’s being talked about on a very MACRO level.

I’ve realized my part in this is smaller, it’s on the micro level. It’s about showing an individual woman that she can have the confidence she needs to THEN go and tackle whatever is important to her.

I’m in it for the confidence of women, the feeling we get after one little appointment that reminds us we are capable of BIG shit!

I feel like when I’m scrolling online - I see all of these quotes. I know you see them too about women and empowerment and I SEE things. But I want to WITNESS more women lifting each other up in my actual day to day life. What do you do personally to lift up your fellow woman?

I want to be held accountable of this in my own life and my own passion for purpose. Let’s be women of ACTION that do what we say. Let’s not just talk about it.. Let’s DO things that lift up ourselves so we may lift up other women in return.

So when you come in for your guest experience and hair transformation with NBR, I want to know what your passions are. Share with me what you are DOING to encourage and empower the women around you - whether it be in a MACRO or mirco way.

Don’t forget we’re in this together babes! ~xo

Your ONLY job @ your Hair Appointment

My goal when you come in for your appointment is that you take a break, relax, read a magazine, enjoy a refreshment, have a snack and unplug for a moment. You need to recharge sister. When your appointment is over I promise you will LOOK beautiful and FEEL emotionally refreshed and with both of those in your favor you can’t help but feel confident and like a whole new woman!

download copy.jpg

I’m subscribed to several different magazine publications (before you think, man this chick subscribes to a lot of things) I get magazines monthly to have in the salon! I like offering a variety of magazines from Travel to Wellness, Architecture and Beauty and of course I have to throw in some Style & Decor.

I like to have options displayed for you to choose from, so you can set your phone down and fully unplug at your appointment. It’s really easy to spend an entire hair appointment sucked into the mindless scroll, which is a slippery slope the can lead into the negative comparison game. Let’s break that cycle.

This is time for YOU. It’s the time to fill your cup [both literally - “would you like red or white wine during your appointment today” and physically restoring yourself with a little R&R]

There is something about a magazine in print that when you’re holding in your hands, feeling the paper, maybe finding a sample perfume packet tucked into the spine, and - reading about things that have NOTHING to do with people you know on Facebook — you disconnect and get lost in imagination!

I found myself reading this quick article from Domino because I just HAD to know what the Unofficial Color of Summer ‘19 was going to be - - and then doing a mini living room makeover in my mind. Like - I’m pretty certain that I NEED THAT RUG. Don’t you think?!!

When you sit in my chair you’re not there ‘just to get your hair touched up’ the goal of your appointment is to show you a physical transformation that is an outward reflection of your strength, your intelligence and your beauty!

This is how I want to help you on your Self Care Journey! Remember, we’re in this together! xo babes~
