NBR with creator Danielle K. White
Creator of Natural Beaded Rows, Danielle K. White gives us some information on her Hair Extensions method, NBR. You have so many questions about NBR and I am so happy to share with you this video with you!
I think this is such a great introductory clip of Natural Beaded Rows!
I couldn’t be happier that you are just as excited about NBR as I am! Every time I read a DM asking about how the method works, what does it look like when it grows out, how many rows… ALL OF IT - I get really excited to share with you!
So when I came across this video from DKW Styling I new right away that I wanted to share it with you so you could SEE a quick run through of some of your common asked questions answered by the creator herself!
It sure makes me want to go down to Laguna Beach, CA and hang out at DKW and get my extensions done! Did you see all that sunshine!!! Especially if I know I can get that half up braid style at the end! It goes perfectly with walking along the beach.
Well now I feel like I’m off planning a mini vaca in my mind ~ summer cannot get here soon enough!

Can NBR Extensions really SAVE me time?
Fact or Fiction: Hair Extensions Take MORE time? Taking a look into Natural Beaded Rows [NBR] Hair Extensions and breaking down how much TIME they take, or just maybe how much TIME you SAVE! See if you can relate to this morning routine.
I’ve heard that extensions take too much time. I’ve also even thought it before I knew all the facts.
I thought, with all that extra hair - it’s got to take FOREVER to do every.damn.day. - This statement is false.
In my regular day to day “get ready” routine. My NBR actually SAVES me time in the morning. I mean, I’m sure you know this by now, because we’ve literally gotten ready together over on Instagram Live and it takes me start to finish Hair + Makeup = 15ish minutes.
Here’s how it works.
I have a “Wash Day” - which, with hair extensions - does require a little more effort than my pre extension wash days. However, I only do it once. Not every other freaking day like I used to. [This is also dependent on your hair type, my hair is dry and continues to get drier - if you have oilier hair you may need to wash 2x’s a week with an added “mini-wash” in between!)
Before NBR, I spent like 15 minutes every other day washing my hair (stripping it of all its natural oils - and I wondered why my hair was so dry — whoopsies!) and then spent 5 minutes putting in all these hydrating products, another 15 minutes blow drying it for volume, then another 20 minutes styling. I did this 4 times a week!
Then on the 3 days I didn’t wash my hair - I still had to style it for 15 minutes every day because my natural hair doesn't hold curl on it’s own to save its life. That’s 265 minutes, that’s almost 4.5 hours a week on my hair. WHAAAT IS THAT NONSENSE!!!
Now with NBR — I wash it once (NOT stripping all the oils out) and I spend about 20 minutes in the shower. Then I spend like 5 minutes spritzing in leave-in product and then knock a couple things off my to do list while my hair air drys 90% of the way. When I come back to smooth it out with a blow dryer I spend about 10 minutes on drying it and another 10 with a flat iron smoothing down any frizz.
My weekly routine is brushing my NBR in the morning and running some oil through the ends, which is the best 5 minute hair routine my morning has ever seen. So now we’re at 120 minutes or exactly 2 hours total for THE WEEK.
NBR has cut down my time spent on my hair routine BY OVER HALF! What in the world?!!
There is nothing high maintenance or time consuming about that. In fact I’ve just given myself an extra 2.5 hours a week. Now I’m starting to see how Beyoncé appears to have more time in a day than the rest of us!!!
It’s like getting lash extensions. You lay there in a serene nap like state for an hour in order to SAVE TIME every morning doing your Mascara + Eyeliner routine (which we both know will result in at least 1 weekly eye poke where you’re sure you’ve gone blind)
Same thing with NBR. You do all the work once (maybe twice) and then it’s smoooth sailing with all your new found time. What would you do with an extra 2.5 hours a week?
For more hours in the day complete the NBR application and share with me your hair history!
Straight NBR
NBR Hair Extensions can be worn curly OR straight. It’s not common to have that kind of versatility with styling extensions. Natural Beaded Rows look just as good worn straight as they do in beachy waves.
In the B.C hair extension days - you couldn’t wear them straight - it was like a dead give away that you had extensions. The color was always OFF, the cut was non existent and shelf-y, and to wear it straight was to magnify how bad your hair looked. You would never commit hair suicide like that - so you were forced to curl it.
I’m over here thanking the NBR gods that I can wear my hair straight and I’m not forced to style it the same way all the time to hide how bad my extensions look! Plus that’s a lot of time in the morning - having to curl it, and not to mention hard on your hair. (wayyyyy to much heat)
Let me tell you a little secret… BEFORE NBR I hated to wear my hair straight. LIKE HATED IT. I’d rather throw it up in a bun than wear it down + straight. I have naturally straight hair, so like most - I want what I can’t have. I dream of using some mousse or soft gel in my hair and do the upward scrunchy motion to bring out the textured waves.
Nope. Tried it. Does NOT work for me.
I always felt like my hair was blah straight, sparse on the ends and gaps around my face - that I had NO volume at the root and it just sorta looked, well - drowned. So I didn’t wear it straight and it lived in a bun all the time.
Had you told me then, that I’d wear my hair down and straight ALL.THE.TIME and would rarely curl it or throw it in a bun- I’d be like HA! You don’t even know me.
NOW I wear my hair straight like 5/7 days a week For reals, not exaggerating. I do like to switch it up from time to time and wear my easy go to styles like braids and ponytails! (Which having access to EVERY styling option with hair extensions is a topic for a different day!)
I went from hating my hair straight and never doing it - to getting NBR and then BOOM - the hair I hated, is now the hair I LOVE and rock on the daily. It’s the closest thing to magic I’ve ever witnessed.
My sparse end pieces are now full 22”s! Those gaps and around my face are now full and face framing! I have volume and fullness with the extra hair - and it looks beautiful down and straight.
I want to share this with you so you know, I’ve been there too - and I know the feeling.
But - I’ve also been here on this side, and WHOA is it THE BEST! I feel like I HAVE to let you in on this as a womanly duty to you. Like when you know there is a huge sale and you tell all your friends OMG I got this new shirt at Nordys and you have to go check the sale out, HURRY!
NBR is basically that~! So girl - fill THIS out and get yourself some amazing hair!

Girl Power is Contagious
There is a movement right now of women accomplishing some amazing things. Where does this Girl Power come from and where can I find some? Women’s Day. Female Empowerment.
I’m still feeling inspired from Women’s Day last week and I want to keep the momentum going. On Wednesday everywhere I looked there were quotes from amazing women and images of women showing their strength and standing in their power. It all resonated with me.
If you follow along with me on Instagram, you may remember this moment where I was boldly doing a live video standing in the sand on the edge of the Ocean in Huntington Beach - proclaiming to all my followers, (and basically the world) that I was breaking free from all of my comfort zones and focusing on getting uncomfortable with growth.
Sometimes I look back at the video and think - OMG - who gave me access to live broad casting?!! I was obviously feeling some jolt of confidence (I credit the 22” of NBR mermaid hair) and shouldn’t have access to my phone.
I also look back and am happy that I said it, I feel like now that it’s out there I have this sense of accountability. Like since I said it out loud- it can be real!
So for the 2nd time this year - I’m flying to a place I’ve never been to before (luckily to the same airport, just different Uber drivers that drop me off to new places where I obviously look like a tourist) but I’m holding myself accountable and putting myself in a room with fellow hair stylists and boss babes who are all doing the same thing - getting uncomfortable for the sake of growth.
There is something about getting together with fellow women hell bent on action that makes you want to work hard too. It’s somehow contagious!
I think it’s an amazing thing when women get together and spark a fire within each other. It somehow burns bigger than we could ever imagine and starts to ignite a fire in others as well!
I have to say ‘Thank You’ to the women I know, and the women I see who are bolding standing in front of obstacles and fear saying, “I can do this”. Thank you for taking the stand first and putting yourself out there. Thank you for showing me that vulnerability is a strength. Because of your lead - I have this crazy idea that I can do anything I set my mind to.
My hope is that we all have a moment where we declare to the world (and most importantly ourselves) that we aren’t being held back - - not by the opinions of others, not by our own insecurities, and sure as hell not by fear.
It’s time to be BOLD + BRAVE
If you need a confidence boost to remind your inner QUEEN who’s actually boss - complete this NBR form and watch how great hair can make you literally feel like a whole new woman! Step 1.
Let's NOT talk Hair + Makeup...just for a minute...
Putting the Hair + Makeup chat on pause while we talk about something much bigger!
You know I’m all for chatting everything Beauty, but today let’s set that topic aside and talk about something that’s happening right now.
I’ve noticed that for some reason (trying not to blast Mercury for being in retrograde right now) that everything lately has just been out of balance. …or something.
I hear it in the break room chats of my fellow Stylists at the salon, I hear it when you’re in my chair sharing about life, and I first hand witness it in my own day to day happenings. Why does everything seem to take 10x more effort and why does my effort tank seem to be running on E ??
I first told myself that it’s because it’s winter + cold and I’m not getting the amount time outdoors that I need to function properly.
Then I started looking at how I’ve completely changed up my daily routine + habits and that it’s been WAY harder than I thought.
Not to mention there is ALWAYS something on my to do list that I’m not getting to- and I FEEL it sitting there looking at me with guilt as I add 5 more to do items to the already long list. All of these things - added up - begin to feel heavy.
So here is what I’ve concluded for myself, and hopefully by sharing this with you, you can find value in it too!
Sometimes, Life — it runs the show!
I know that isn’t some magical Pinterest quote to give us the warm and fuzzies and band aid whats going on.
But what it is - - - is the freakin’ truth!
Sometimes in a world where we are over stimulated by curated and filtered content we forget that EVERYONE is feeling the strains of life. So as I was trying to figure out “what’s going on” I simply remembered that LIFE is going on. We feel its ebbs and its flows.
When it feels like life it’s 10x harder then it should be - then find a way to give life 10x more effort. When life feels like it’s smooth sailing, then kick up your feet, feel the breeze and enjoy the moment. Life is in control of the ebbs and flows, but we really are in control of how we respond to it.
So for all my #beautybabes out there feeling Mercury spinning around in retrograde throwing things off…
Here is my life hack - I recommend a winged liner, a bold lip and 2 rows of NBR - It’ll leave you FEELING like you can handle whatever life throws at’cha.
That confidence will help you look life in the face and say - I’ve got this!
Stay strong babes and we’ll chat next week
