Now that you’ve got the hair… let’s talk about the care!

Whether you’ve just had your Hair Extensions installed and rocking a fresh new set of Hand-Tied or Genius Wefts, OR you’re a seasoned pro - proper home care is key to keeping your hair healthy, long-lasting, and absolutely stunning.

As the number 1 Extension Salon serving all of Idaho, Western Wyoming, Southwest Montana and Northern Utah we’ve created this ultimate extension care guide for all of our guests—from local babes to those traveling in from neighboring towns and states.

BRUSHING – Your First Line of Defense

Wondering how to take care of your hair extensions at home? It starts with brushing.

✅ Brush twice daily AM & PM using a soft bristle or detangling brush like the WetBrush
✅ Hold the base of your wefts firmly against your head and start detangling from the ends upward.
✅ Wearing multiple rows? Brush row by row, starting with the bottom.

💡 Pro Tip: Gentle brushing prevents matting, and moves natural oils downwards which extends the life of your extensions—perfect for Idaho’s dry air and active lifestyle!

CLEANSE + BLOWDRY – Wash Day Wisdom

Washing your extensions isn’t complicated, but it does require a little extra love.

  1. Brush before showering (never get tangles wet—matting alert!).

  2. Use a sulfate-free, salon-quality shampoo and conditioner. We love and recommend ILES FORMULA for all our low-tox babes who care about their color, extensions and lifestyle.

  3. Apply shampoo at the scalp and between rows. Use additional water to activate the lather when using our Sulfate Free Shampoo. Double cleanse for the freshest feel.

  4. Apply conditioner mid-length through ends. Distribute with a wet brush or wide-tooth comb allowing remaining product to move to the scalp for hydration.

  5. Rinse thoroughly—especially at the base of the wefts. No residue left behind!

💧 Always follow with a leave-in product or heat protectant like ILES Serum—hydration and heat protection in one.

Blowdry Like a Pro:

  • Towel or air dry until 75-80% dry to remove majority of moisture.

  • Avoid round brushes until the last 20% of drying to avoid excess tension on the base of the rows.

  • Use medium heat and direct airflow downward to smooth the hair cuticles.

  • Ensure the base/seam of the wefts is fully dry.

STYLING – Gorgeous & Safe

For that first week after installation, go easy:

✔ Wear your hair down, in a loose braid, or a low ponytail to allow scalp time to adjust to the extensions.
✔ Always AVOID tight or sleek styles that put pressure on the front beads.

Use ILES Serum daily from mids to ends for hydration and heat protection.

Hot tool tip:
Set your styling tool between 320°F–360°F and make a single smoothing pass before curling or waving. It helps seal the cuticle and activate the protectant.

Instead of messy buns, try ballet buns—they help maintain your style and reduce tension.

SLEEPING – Beauty Rest for Your Extensions

🌙 Before bed:

  • Brush your hair using the daily brushing technique and add in ILES Serum for moisture and protection.

  • Secure it in 1–2 loose braids, low pony, a ballet bun, or heatless curler.

🛏 NEVER sleep with wet hair. Dry your hair completely before bed to prevent tangling and matting.

🌸 Use a silk pillowcase, silk scrunchies and a silk bonnet to reduce breakage and preserve your style.

LIFESTYLE – Everyday Habits That Protect Your Hair

Whether you're hiking the Tetons, working out at the gym, enjoying summer at Palisades, or camping down a Forrest Service Road these tips will protect your extensions in Idaho’s active climate:

🏃‍♀️ Workouts & Outdoors

  • Braid or ponytail your hair before hiking or sweating.

  • Skip tight ponytails—stick with loose, protective styles.

🏖 Swimming (Saltwater & Chlorine Pools)

  • Brush hair and fully saturate hair with fresh water and Iles Formula Serum before swimming.

  • Use 2 secure braids to protect your hair in water.

  • After swimming, follow your cleanse routine immediately.

☀️ Sunscreen Warning:
Avoid sunscreens or tanning oils that contain avobenzone—they can discolor your extensions. Always use mineral-based SPF to protect both your skin and your hair.

Final Thoughts – Keep That Hair Investment Thriving

Your hair is an investment—one that deserves daily love and attention. These steps will quickly become part of your routine and you’ll find how easy they are to adopt into your lifestyle.
